January Notes -

Welcome Las Vegas Modern Quilt Guild 2014
Focusing on the Modern Quilt movement -

“Define modern quilts as quilts that are functional, include bold colors, and are inspired by modern design. Minimalism, asymmetry expansive negative space, and alternate grid work are often a part of modern quilt compositions, as are improvisational piecing and solid fabrics."

Introduction of new officers
Carolina Moore – President
Nicole Hardy – Treasure
Sandy Glynn – Secretary

Focusing on ongoing education and challenges
Ongoing:
All on your own – piecing, machine quilting and finishing.  Goal is to help people become comfortable with machine quilting their own projects.  During the month of Feb and March we will have guest speaker/demo from Christa Wilson on machine quilting on your home machine.

January  education:
½ square triangles – demonstration by Carolina Moore, 3 different techinques
traditional cut triangles, stitching complete squares – cut – iron and triangle paper (aka friendship triangles)

Sweet Swap Challenge for February:
Something little, something sweet – does not need to be Valentine themed.
Examples, mug rug, pin cushion, mini quilt.

1st Challenge for March  - ½ square triangles
Piece can be any size and quilt it your self.

  1. What a refreshing group of like-minded quilters who seek to explore and find new methods of piecing and quilting. Friendly group too!

Next month I believe I'll be taking the membership plunge. ....
